Spending the Christmas season alone for the first time?

A relationship expert believes it’s the perfect opportunity to focus on yourself.

Dr Emily Morse, a sex doctor from the US, recommends taking a break from social media to reflect and explore self pleasure.

She said: “Many of us aren’t traveling this holiday season, which can feel like a major bummer if you’re used to cozying up with family.

“I want to help you keep the holiday magic alive.

“No matter where you are, here are some ways to celebrate.”

Emily Morse shared her top tips for those who are missing loved ones this Christmas

1. Pleasure yourself

Like many activities, masturbation releases “happy” hormones.

Dopamine is responsible for making you feel good and put you in a better mood.

Meanwhile, oxytocin (the ‘love’ hormone) helps to combat cortisol, the stress hormone.

Self loving sessions can also help you to combat loneliness.

Even though human touch isn’t available to some of us at the moment, it doesn’t mean sexual activity is off the cards.

Emily added: “Pleasure yourself. Because, obviously.”

2. Take a social media break

The doctor of human sexuality recommends switching off from the online world.

She said: “The holidays can be especially difficult if you’re being bombarded with everyone’s highlights!

“Take a screen break and focus on the things right in front of you.”

Instead of scrolling through your social media feeds for hours, try reading a book or having a relaxing bubble bath!

3. Write a handwritten letter

If you’re planning to take a social media break, slow down on digital communication too.

Stop checking work emails if possible and don’t feel the need to reply to all of your text messages.

Penning notes and letters allows you to think about each word – and they’re very sweet to receive too.

Emily recommends: “Write a handwritten letter.

“In a world of digital communication, receiving physical mail can be oh-so-heartwarming.”

4. Be a tourist in your own town

The world has slowed down during the coronavirus pandemic.

Travel plans have been put on halt for the majority of us.

But on the upside, it’s given us more time to explore our local areas instead.

Emily encourages her followers to “wander the park” and visit spots you’ve always wanted to see.

Just make sure you follow government guidelines when doing so!

5. Reflect on the year

2020 has definitely been a rollercoaster – and many can’t wait to see the back of it.

For this reason, the sexpert recommends asking questions like: “What did you learn? How did you grow? Where did you show moments of strengths?”

Acknowledging your journey and personal growth can give you a sense of accomplishment.

And it proves this year hasn’t been a complete write off.
